Alt. Energy Field-trip to Ethanol Plant

Monday July 18th:

After an early start to everyones day, the students traveled to an Ethanol Plant three hours outside of São Paulo. Brazil is the 2nd highest producer of sugar cane ethanol each year - second behind the USA. Here, students were able to see the process of how sugar cane is grown and broken down to produce sugar, electricity and fuel. During the break down of the sugar cane, the plant is able to produce Ethanol and biogas is emitted to create steam and electricity. This plant is able to produce enough energy to sustain the plants operation; and they give back the excess energy to the power grid. See below for a brief explanation of the process!
